25 January 2021 - After many months of sweat and sleepless nights, we are very proud to be able to unveil the all new SMUMods Blog! Let’s hear from our Team Lead, Yash so you can get to know more about our brand new feature.
Yash here from SMUMods - a platform catering to the educational needs of SMU students. We build features to solve pain points for students like ourselves.
Most people know me as “that one guy in SMU who doesn't shut up about SMUMods.com”.
Now, so do you.
SMUMods Blog happens to be a feature we thought would reduce pain points - we built this because we saw the need for a platform where students and CCAs can express their opinions and market their events.
You can look forward to more of such posts! We’re going to talk about our behind-the-scenes, our team, our history and even our founders.
Speaking of whom, now’s the proper time to introduce them. Zach and Gab started this project to help students plan and bid for courses with a focus on delivering great user experiences. Over the last 2 years, we’ve grown from a small team of 2 to a dynamic 14-person squad.
We’re a bunch of SMU students who want to better our college community by working on a real-life project with real users to solve real problems. If we can identify a problem that can be solved easily, we build, test and launch it for our users.
We are the go-to partner for students in all educational and extra-curricular discovery needs.
To enhance and explore the possibilities of student life - one student and one experience at a time.
Through the involvement of the student community, we serve every need in college. SMUMods: entirely developed by students, for students.
It's simple - to become the best student-life platform in the world. Over time, we plan to launch a suite of other features such as Communities, Tasks and so much more.
2020 was a personal triumph for us (despite being a global disaster) - we grew our site 10 times in the space of 12 months.
We now have 3.5k+ reviews, 380+ books, and 4k+ users.
That’s pretty insane for a student-led project.
What’s next for us, you ask?
Let’s take a look -
Forums, for students to ask and answer questions. Think of a Reddit for students.
Communities, for students to find peers with similar interests. You can easily join Telegram groups with people you want to share ideas and experiences with.
Notes for students to sell and purchase… well… notes!
Partnership with local company Outside -
That’s just 4 of a whole suite of features we have planned for our users.
Of course, this couldn't have been possible without the incredibly dedicated team we have.
These people have sacrificed their vacations, their weekends, and put in a whole lot of sweat into making this project possible - all for $0 pay.
And yes, they’re freaking awesome at what they do -
So, that’s that about SMUMods!
Thanks so much for being a part of our journey.
We’ll all be working twice as hard in 2021 and ensuring we continuously improve and deliver the best experience for our users.
We’re constantly looking to improve, so if you ever have any feedback or suggestions for features, drop me a message personally on Telegram @yashgadodia. I love getting random text for feedback from users. I promise.
It’s going to be a great year ahead!

(P.S - if you like what we’re doing here, and want to support us - do donate the price of a cup of coffee so we can keep doing what we’re doing (and more). We pay for our servers out of our pockets at the moment. Every dollar counts! https://ko-fi.com/smumods. Thanks!)
